This breed was developed in the 1980s to improve the health of the full sized dogs by reducing their size. This breed retains all the features of the full-sized dogs: loving personality, obedience, protectiveness. These dogs are also loyal, people oriented, and trainable.
Their height is about 12-14 inches, and length ranges between 17 and 24 inches. Their weight may reach 40 lbs. The puppies of this breed are of better behavior than the big ones, and practically lack hereditary diseases typical for them.

There are several misconceptions connecting with this breed. Blue eyes for these dogs, for example, are neither good nor rare. Some dogs of this breed are deaf and it is totally against the standard. If you’ve chosen a solid white puppy, the breeder should provide you with proof from the vet that the animal isn’t deaf. Black dogs are totally against the breed standard as well. There is no Mini version of this breed recognized by the American Kennel Club as purebred; such dogs are mixed breed. If you want to obtain a really pedigree dog you should find a reputable breeder.
